Band / Bands: The Hexmen & The Extras
Other Info: The Hexmen where founded by frontman vocalist and harmonica player George Hexman in the late 70s, joining forces with major movers and shakers of the Liverpool music scene. Although they have always been known as a blues band, the Hexmen’s material is not that easy to categorise. The band’s music is blues based certainly but the defining quality of the Hexmen has always been energy with an aggressive, indie edge and a psychedelic undercurrent that lends extra dimensions to the music. Notwithstanding George’s historic links with the 80s and 90s Liverpool music scene, the current band members have an exciting pedigree. George himself, vocals (and a much sought after session blues harp player), has recorded with with some of the most significant indie bands of the past 20 years.

Band / Bands: The Stumble
Other Info: A blistering mix of blues, soul and old school R&B, The Stumble have been wowing audiences with the energy and virtuosity of their live performances for the past 20 years. Festival favourites in every corner of the UK and Europe, The Stumble are taking their creative talents to a new level with their stupendous 4th album, The Other Side. This is the band that Lazy Lester wanted to take back to the States with him and the band that the blues press widely recognise as one of the strongest live acts that the genre can boast in the UK.

The Blues is where it all started for The Stumble, with founding member Colin Black and drummer/songwriter Boyd Tonner both major figures in the new wave blues boom coming out of Glasgow in the 80’s and 90’s. In recent times the band has learned to embrace a wider spectrum of influences and trust in their musical instincts in order to craft original songs that make both the album experience and the live experience a much more rich and satisfying journey. Simon, Ant, Cam, Paul, Boyd and Colin are all consummate performers who can turn it on, but also let the music breathe. Unique in their creativity, masterful in their interpretation and solid in their foundations, The Stumble now transcend the blues and look to build on the critical acclaim that has been heaped on their previous album works and live shows by taking the songs from The Other Side on the road and revisiting and reinventing some of their classic renditions of covers by artists such as Howling Wolf, B.B. King, Ike Turner and Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac.

All great bands have a particular mix of personalities and talents that deliver a sound and an edge to die for and The Stumble can mix it with the best of them. Expect raw power, emotion, joyous melodies, heartbreaking blues and a guaranteed good time with a band on the crest of a wave. Experience this band live now and be part of it. www.thestumble.com

Gig at The Citadel in St Helens

Band / Bands: The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Other Info: Jamie has one job: look after the sheep.

If the wolf sneaks out from the forest he must shout and scream WOLF! so that everyone from the village can come and chase the wolf away.

Watching sheep is boring. Waiting for a wolf that never comes is boring. Very boring.

A wolf running out of the forest with his tongue lolling and his teeth sharp as knives would be so very, very exciting.

Wouldn’t it?

'The Boy Who Cried Wolf', adapted from Aesop's fable, is Dommy B's fifth nationally touring show for children and families. It follows last year's hugely successful 'When Trolls Try to Eat Their Goldfish' (co-produced by Action Transport Theatre).

This hilarious new play, made in collaboration with Z Arts and Big Imaginations, features live music, and is directed by the award-winning Kevin Dyer. Kevin's plays include 'Baghdad Zoo' (York Theatre Royal), 'The Bridge' (Dundee Rep) and 'Giving It Back' (BBC Radio 4). He also wrote 'The Monster Under The Bed' for Polka Theatre, which won the Writers' Guild 'Best Children's Play' Award.

“Really very inspiring. I love the seriousness and the humour.”- Benjamin Zephaniah

“Dominic is an exceptional force in the poetry and spoken word scene.” -John McGrath Artistic Director, National Theatre Wales

“From the moment he started to speak we were totally captivated - the incredible way he uses words, the expression and energy of the delivery and the subject matter made him irresistible.”-City Life Magazine

Gig at The Citadel in St Helens

Band / Bands: Live/Wire The AC/DC Show
Other Info: Live/Wire is The AC/DC Show. The unique six-man tribute to rock music's greatest band AC/DC, complete with cannons, a wall of Marshalls' and over two hours of High Voltage Rock 'n' Roll.

The AC/DC story is over forty years in the making, with two specific eras and the band cover both these as always with both 'Gary' Bon Scott and 'Pete' Brian Johnson present to take you on the Rock and Roll train for a night to remember. Originally fronting AC/DC was legendary front man Bon Scott, a wild man of rock and roll, whose untimely death shocked the world in 1980. This event came at a time when the band was sampling global success for the first time. Gary delivers songs from the Band’s first half dozen albums from Dirty Deeds to Highway to Hell with Bon’s inimitable attitude and style. Pete, then dons the flat cap as Geordie vocalist, Brian Johnson, whom AC/DC turned to in order to fill the void left by Bon. Brian's searing vocals Iced Back in Black, one of the best-selling rock albums of all time! Brian has now been with AC/DC for well over thirty years and like a good wine he’s matured with age. Pete brings the Live/Wire show bang up to date with classic ‘Brian’ songs and includes some tracks from AC/DC’s recent and hugely successful new album, Rock or Bust.

The band aim to put you slap bang in the middle of the show with hit after hit, and you are expected to join in! There’ll also be one or two gems thrown in for the aficionados! We’d be hung, drawn and quartered if we didn’t play all the classics, Back in Black, Rosie, Highway to hell are all there, and the songs keep on coming until the cannons fire ceremoniously to bring the evening to a superb crescendo. If by this time you are still standing…we salute you! Long Live AC/DC, Long Live LIVE/WIRE

Band / Bands: Who's Who
Other Info: Formed in West London in 1996, Who’s Who, the longest established Who Tribute Show in the UK, have received incredible reactions across Europe and beyond for their exciting live performances. Widely respected and acknowledged by members of The Who, as the group that most interprets the songs of Pete Townshend and the legendary live performances of The Who, with honesty and integrity. Giving nothing less than 100% during a performance, Who ’s Who ensure that a night to remember is guarantee. The band celebrated the 40th anniversary of "Live at Leeds" in 2010, touring extensively and performing the whole of "Tommy" to audiences in the UK and Europe, amid critical acclaim.

Raw Power, Passion and Soul, that's what defines the members that make up Who’s Who. Their longevity and chemistry together as a unit is unchallengeable - 13 years in a stable line-up, the longest ever for any Who type band; and from that comes an understanding of each other as players; much like The Who themselves. Any player will tell you that you cannot buy chemistry, and it serves as a testament to the reputation they have worked extremely hard to cement.

Who's Who plays to its strengths, which is its collective talent as players and performers. The music will always come first - there are no wigs or "stick on" sideburns here.

As history rolls on; they have proved to be an essential ingredient to fans of The Who and the musical legacy it's left behind.

Band / Bands: The Sounds of Simon - A Tribute to Simon and Garfunkel

Lose yourself to nostalgia as the full band play such classics as Mrs Robinson, The Boxer, The Sounds of Silence and You Can Call Me Al as well as all the others that have established Paul Simon as one of the most successful songwriters of all time.

Paul and Art are played to perfection, bringing in elements of their famously fractious relationship, as well as replicating the beautiful harmonies flawlessly. This is a wonderful show filled with excellent music, nostalgia, and a genuine love for some great musicians.

Band / Bands: Smaller Rooms presents: Jim Moray
Other Info: For 15 years Jim Moray has been at the forefront of a new movement in English traditional music.

His debut album Sweet England changed the sound of folk song and won a brace of awards for its innovative melding of orchestration and electronica. Subsequent albums embraced everything from grime to Johnny Marr-esque guitar pop, but at their heart was always Jim’s unmistakeable soulful and yearning voice; singing old songs in a new way.

His sixth album Upcetera heralds a new chapter for the producer and has received the best reviews of his career, including five stars from Mojo, fRoots and R2 magazines. Band / Bands: Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes

Following a UK hit in 1994 with the track 'Harmonica Man', Lamb worked with musicians such as Mark Knopfler, The Who, Rod Stewart and Jimmy Nail prior to forming Paul Lamb & the Kingsnakes.

Band / Bands: Nine Below Zero
Other Info: An audience favourite is returning to the Citadel stage. One of British Blues Rock’s most enduring and respected bands, Nine Below Zero have gained quite the following in the UK and Europe since they originally formed in 1977. One of the most popular bands on the London Circuit they released their first album Live at the Marquee in 1980. It was instantly a classic, capturing in recording a band in superb, electrifying full-on olive effect. Their high energy fast tempo was attracting audiences from other genres, particularly the new wave of British Heavy Metal.

Front Man Dennis Greaves won his place in the hearts of fans and critics alike with his rasping vocals and superb guitar playing. They enjoyed chart success with their second and third albums, Don’t Point Your Finger and Third Degree and made several TV appearances. They were the first band to be featured in the classic sitcom The Young Ones and they seemed to performing non-stop until the band separated in 1982.

They re-formed in 1990, playing to sell out audiences, fans got to witness a reborn Nine Below Zero. The band has since gone from strength to strength playing all over Europe and last visited the Citadel in 2014 when they embarked on their Reunion Tour.

Nine Below Zero gigs are always energetic affairs, a non-stop party where band and audience are whipped into a frenzy by the superb musicianship. Be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.

‘Road' explores the lives of the people who live in an un-named road, in a deprived, working class area during the Thatcher government - a time of high unemployment in the north of England. Join our tour guide, Scullery as he introduces you to an array of characters all trying to find some kind of escape from their squalid existence.

As relevant today as it was in 1986, ‘Road’ is an arresting mix of humour and pathos, transporting the audience with energy and passion, leaving you uplifted and reminded of the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit.

BAFTA nominated and Ivor Novello award winning songwriter Jem Godfrey formed Frost in 2005 after 5 years of writing million selling number 1 records for the likes of Holly Valance, Atomic Kitten and X-Factor. The band quickly gained attention with the release of their debut album “Milliontown in 2006 which remains an oft cited influence to this day with many up and coming bands.

Band / Bands: The Doors Alive Plus Guests
Other Info: The Doors Alive are the No.1 tribute band to the legendary, Sixties, Californian rock guru's - The Doors.

They re-create the sound, look, presence and feel of a real 1960's Doors concert perfectly and effortlessly, transporting the crowd back in time with such classic hits as 'Light My Fire', 'When The Music's Over, Riders On The Storm, The End and many more. The singer, Willie, captures the attitude, look and voice of the late, great Jim Morrison, and the other band members have honed the other Doors members playing styles note for note.

To achieve that authentic Sixties sound, the band use the very same instruments that members of the Doors originally used. These include a vintage Fender Rhodes Bass keyboard, a vintage Vox Continental keyboard and a vintage Gibson S.G guitar.

Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult and seated on the balcony upstairs.

Band / Bands: Classic Rock Society Presents Magenta
Other Info: Magenta are very excited to announce that they’ll be returning to the Citadel during their biggest-ever sequence of gigs in Spring 2017. The concert will coincide with the release of the band's as-yet-unnamed seventh studio album to hit shelves in April 2017, their first since the release of the acclaimed "Twenty Seven Club" in 2013. The album will - as usual - feature the award-winning talents of Rob Reed (keyboards, bass, guitar), Christina Booth (vocals) and Chris Fry (lead guitar) alongside guest drummer Andy Edwards (IQ, Kiama, Frost*). The album will also see the band returning to long-form material with two 20 minute epics.

Rob Reed says:

"We haven't played live a huge amount in the last couple of years, so it will be great to get back on the road for an extended series of dates and play pieces from the new album alongside some of our older material."

The band will also release a DVD "Live at Leamington Spa" on November 12th, and will launch the DVD with a special acoustic show at Acapela Studios in Cardiff on the same day.

2017 marks the 15th anniversary of Magenta as a live act, an award winning career which has seen the band play in UK, Europe and America at events such as Baja Prog (Mexico-2003), Rosfest (USA-2005), IO Pages Fest (Netherlands - 2006), Nearfest (USA-2007), Summers End (UK - 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014), Night of the Prog (Germany - 2008) Celebr8 (UK - 2012) and Verona Prog (Italy - 2012).
