Indiana the girl, not the state.

Indiana’s music is testament to a flourishing new front for pop music. There is a growing rejection of the excessive electro hooks, novelty gimmicks and hyper-sexualisation that have become the pillars of mainstream pop. This rebuff favours a more minimal and musical approach.

Indiana thrives on removing the over-synthesised fanfare of commercial pop, and reducing it to the most subtle and precious elements. This is pure, intellectual and cinematic pop music, with a clear aim and a deft execution.

Her live performances are nothing short of mesmerising and her pristine, beautiful voice has a haunting, arresting quality that draws you in. Captivating.

Detonate returns once again to bring you a plethora of incredible DJs and MCs...

First up is Andy C. With more than forty awards to date, DJ sets that see him play main stages from EDC to Global Gathering, and a reputation as the go-to remixer for the likes of Major Lazer, Rudimental, London Grammar and beyond, Andy C’s list of achievements grows by the week. He will not disappoint.

Joining Andy will be Loadstar. Having surpassed the highest expectations in recent years by fusing their individual styles and creating a pioneering sound, Loadstar imbue club dancefloors and huge festival arenas with incredible energy and impeccable musical precision.

Rene LaVice is a consummate artist, embracing creativity wherever he finds it and channelling his inspirations into five and a half minute pieces of brilliance. Rene is without doubt one of the hottest drum & bass producers in the North American scene, having already amassed an impressive catalogue of music that has caught the attention of BBC luminaries such as Nick Grimshaw, Crissy Criss and Bailey, as well as D&B figurehead, Andy C.

Frankee will also be taking to Plug’s decks. As one of the rising stars in RAM’s ever expanding roster of forward thinking drum & bass artists, he is sure to delight the dancefloor.

Birmingham grime and garage producer Preditah, has become best known for classic grime instrumentals like ‘The Big Wok’ and ‘Wiley’s Step 1’, and remains true to the craft UK garage and 2-step tunes. Besides churning out record after record under his own name, Preditah is the official touring DJ for Boy Better Know figurehead, Skepta.

And as if that isn’t enough, Flava D will be bringing a feminine touch to proceedings. With productions spanning house, garage, hip hop and grime, she signed to Butterz in early 2013 and has since released two critically acclaimed records for the label: 'Hold On' and 'On My Mind', a collaboration with Royal-T.

Add Detonate resident Transit Mafia, MCs 2Shy and Ruthless, and Erra and Standfast into the mix and you’ve got one heck of an evening. Get ready to party hard.

Already a growing proposition in the States where they’ve played shows with the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Imagine Dragons, LA quartet Saint Motel are making a strong impression with their debut Parlophone track and first Top 40 single ‘My Type’.
To give you an idea of their sound, The Guardian said, ‘If Jarvis Cocker moved to LA and made an album of yacht-rock influenced Britpop, it might sound like this.’
Saint Motel is a Brit-indie band trapped in the bodies of four svelte and stylish Californians. They effortlessly bring some glam pizzazz to the indie genre and their frontman is certainly not averse to flamboyance, a suave croon and lyrics that verge on the literary.
With a light sprinkling of Caribbean rhythms, tropical flavours and lounge-jazziness, Saint Motel is an absolute dream.

Band / Bands: In:Flux presents Distro, Mr C, Dr Oscillator + Tik&Borrow
Other Info: 11pm
£4 + £1 booking fee

Distro's music resides in that fervent middle ground between house, garage, dubstep and funk. The territory in which Lorenzo carved out the now much publicised house & bass sound, tempo-wise it’s strictly house but when you hear it in a club you can't help but wobble and skank.

Huddersfield's Mr C has been a favourite of In:flux for quite some time and he knows how to deliver some serious bass. Mr C will be heading up In:flux Audio's second release, the 'Dutty Up North EP' at the end of October with a few juicy bass house bangers.

Dr Oscillator is somewhat of a new guy on the scene, but has already attracted major attention for his talents. Having had tunes snatched up by Sheffield's own Chip Butty Records, he has also had his track 'The Heist' picked up by In:flux Audio for release as part of the 'Dutty Up North EP' alongside Mr C in October.

Tik&Borrow are the founders of In:flux and were the first official release on the record label back at the end of July. They reached the dizzying heights of Number 10 in the Juno Download Bass charts to some great reviews, and have more tunes in the pipeline, together and as part of collaborations across the record label.

Other Info: 7.30pm

Kate Tempest has been rapping since the tender age of 16.

She started out by practising her rhymes in front of unsuspecting strangers on night buses and pestering MCs to let her show off her skills on the mic at raves. Her passion for language and rhythm was ignited by hip-hop.

Ten years on she’s a published playwright, novelist, poet and recording artist. Her spoken word performances have ‘the metre and craft of traditional poetry, the kinetic agitation of hip-hop and the intimacy of a whispered heart to heart’.

In 2013 she became the first person under 40 to win The Ted Hughes Award for innovation in poetry and Roots Manuva said ‘her works are truly of upliftment and betterment’. High praise indeed.

Check out Brand New Ancients for a taste of the rhymes to come. I implore you to clear a space in your diary for Kate Tempest.

As our past line-ups have proved; house and techno can sit perfectly together side by side, and the 8th of November will be no exception.

Fresh faced and raring to go after their hectic summer of festival hopping, we‘re thrilled to bring you Chris Spero aka Glimpse, and Hypercolour co-head Alex Jones, under their forward thinking techno guise of Dense & Pika. Despite their collaborations as Dense & Pika stretching as far back as 2011, it ‘s only been in the past year that the pair have seen their productions receive the attention they deserve thanks to a signing with Hotflush Recordings.

To accompany Dense & Pika we‘ve reeled in a producer from closer to home who joins Alex Jones in being a Hypercolour affiliate. It‘s a pleasure to welcome James Welsh to Ohm.

Last but by no means least, we‘re revved up to see our highly trusted resident and extremely talented Steel City export Squarehead grace the decks with his presence once again. Armed with the most sought after record collection - a set from Squarehead is never a dull affair.

Fresh faced duo No Artificial Colours have been making waves in the underground house music scene for several years. Although the underlying feel is deep, groovy, hypnotic house, they always elaborate by incorporating acapellas, loops, sound shots and one hits. VICE described them as, ‘One big clusterf*ck of credibility.’ Need I persuade you more?
Joining No Artificial Colours we have Eli & Fur. Since bursting onto the scene in 2012, Eli & Fur have been perfecting a sound built around infectious, electronic melodies and seductive, pensive vocal lines. They’ve been remixed by the likes of the legendary Jimmy Edgar and the fast rising Hackman and Ejeca. All the duo’s releases have come via their own imprint NYX, which they recently launched as a club night in the capital showcasing up and coming new talent.
Denham Audio are a DJ and production collective born and bred in Sheffield. Recent support on their productions has come from Route 94, J. Phlip and Goldffinch, and the trio have been gaining recognition for their unique ability to blend techno, deep house, disco and even garage into their sets.

Other Info: 7.30pm
£4 + £1 booking fee

Ghostly Figures Records is a new label founded by a group of music fans who really care about the music we love, so when it came to releasing a debut single for our label we thought long and hard about who would fit the bill, it would have to be something very special...

Caught somewhere between the fleeting glimpses of heaven and hell, Sheffield psych-extraordinaires Two Skies were driven together by a mutual love of ethereal noises and powerful trippy grooves. Influenced by late night jamming sessions and David Lynch films, their music is an almost nightmarish mix of rollicking basslines and fuzzy washed out guitars. In sharp contrast to the sun-drenched vibes of the modern psych revival, Two Skies evoke the dark night of the soul and hammer out an aural expression of urge, lust and craving. Their EP 'Red' was released earlier this year to rave reviews -

"The atom of cosmic rock is split, spilling itself out in an avalanche of cascading guitars and voice." GOD IS IN THE TV

''They deal in bass-heavy, freak-out friendly reveries with their sights set on the stratosphere.'' Q MAGAZINE

''The band make gargantuan sounds which contain the incredible pressure of blast off, the Earth's gravity pulling you back as your body lurches forward at impossible speeds.'' CLASH MAGAZINE

‘Stay’ sees the band continue to develop their huge psyched out sound, bristling with fuzzed out guitars on top of a tight heavy motorik beat. The song has become a strong favourite in the band’s live set in recent shows, whether headlining or supporting the likes of Wooden Shjips, Toy, Ultrasound and Elephant Stone.

Stay / Ocean is released on 10th November 2014 via Ghostly Figures Records on 7'' vinyl and digitally (gf_01), and is available for immediate pre-order/ streaming/ download at:

Top of the bill tonight is Jackson Caged. As stalwarts of the Sheffield rock scene, they have honed their craft by sharing stages with the likes of Funeral for a Friend and Spear of Destiny. Live and Unsigned described them as, ‘The new Rage Against The Machine’. High praise indeed.

Support comes from Sons of Death Valley. Taking hefty chunks of influence from early 90s alternative bands, SODV are renowned for their raucous live performances. Expect dirty, overdriven lead lines over chorus-laden riffs.

Coyote Mad Seeds will also be bringing their heady mix of metal, rock and blues to Plug’s stage, along with Sheff favourites, Inherit the Stars. Expect a wealth of memorable guitar riffs, drums raining down like a thunderstorm and extraterrestrial synths. You won’t be able to help but listen.

For our second event we've got some artists and DJs that we've been chasing for a while, some since we first started out with this night. So, without further ado, for Ambush #13 we present...

Mak & Pasteman. They met across the Leeds music scene and joined forces in 2011, both with a passion for UK underground music and a thirst for producing. Rising through the ranks, the pair formed a unique imprint on bass music, with past influences helping to craft a sound that sits between house, techno & jungle.

Mella Dee’s sound has evolved from an avid passion for a wide variety of underground sounds; including, jungle, techno, garage, dubstep and house. Together, these influences have enabled him to develop a unique approach to the fusion of these sounds, creating an undeniably real UK sound and gaining him extensive support from key tastemakers.

Benny Kane's destruction of dancefloors the world over continues, heralding a fearsome reputation for fast paced, action-packed sets mixing house, garage, grime and bass.

Juxtaposer and Ambush resident, Sasquatch will also be taking to the decks to further please your sonic space.

For our second November party, we have a line-up we’ve worked very hard to bring to you. Co-curated with two of the UK's biggest electronic music institutions, we are extremely proud to give you, Ohm Sweet Ohm presents... FeelMyBicep Vs Aus Records.

First up, we have Belfast born two-piece, Bicep, flexing their musical muscles. Bicep have amassed a ridiculously versatile portfolio of tunes, influenced by many of the best moments in the history of house music.

Joining Bicep, we have Brighton native Leon Vynehall. Vynehall has been commended for his attention to detail and craftsmanship when it comes to producing house music and his ability to create atmospheric and emotive tracks that take cues from disco, funk and soul.

Rounding off our special guests for the night, we welcome back one of our favourite producers, DJs and record label owners - Will Saul. Saul has great taste for music that’s made for the dance floor but is also enriching for the soul.

Last but not least, we have our super resident and Ohm Sweet Ohm curator, Pedram. He’s built up an extensive knowledge of electronic music over the years, so is well equipped to set the Ohm crowd up with one of his trademark sets, incorporating underground house, leftfield electronica and everything in between. Pedram is also a talented producer, having attracted the attention of James Zabiela, who released Pedram’s debut EP on his Born Electric label earlier this year, which received huge praise from the likes of Midland, Dusky, Tensnake and Martyn.

Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee's voices intertwine in that ineffable way they have, like a sort of highland Nancy 'n' Lee. And those songs: joyous slices of classic pop song-writing brimming with heart and wit.
For those of you not fully acquainted, The Vaselines formed in 1987 and released two singles and one album, Dum Dum, on Scotland’s legendary 53rd & 3rd label. The Vaselines broke up in 1989 — the same week Dum Dum was released — but soon Kurt Cobain began literally singing their praises: not only did he plug them in interviews, calling Eugene and Frances his “favourite songwriters in the whole world,” but Nirvana covered three Vaselines songs, igniting world-wide interest in this obscure, defunct and absolutely brilliant band.
So if Kurt Cobain thought they were mint, you probably should too. So get thee sen to Plug and enjoy some Vaselines 

As November draws to a close, we’re continuing our tradition of supporting and promoting local Sheffield bands by bringing you three of the best, plus an extra special DJ set from another of our favourites.

Dead English Gentlemen are a trio of lads for whom tension and wonder are standard ingredients in their sets. Psychedelic riffs and technicolor grooves pepper their tunes so prepare to be blown away by this prog-rock threesome.

Also joining us tonight are noise-rock two piece PerfectParachutePicture and indie rock ‘n’ roll hip- shakers, Adelphi.

And wrapping up the evening with a DJ set will be The Ratells, who’ll be playing all their favourite tunes for you lucky, lucky people.

And as if that's not enough, there'll be a smorgasbord of independent pop-up shops selling vinyl, merchandise, clothing and a whole host of other treats. Mega.

This November we are proud to present the RESIDENTS & PRODUCERS SHOWCASE at The Plug, Sheffield.

Headlining proceedings we have 3 of the hottest names in the scene right now when it comes to producing peak time bangers: ADAM ELLIS, ANGRY MAN and STANDERWICK!

It’s safe to say that all 3 of these names have exploded onto the scene over the last 12 months to such an extent that it’s very hard to see a major global event not featuring at least 1 of these outstanding talents. To have the trio represented in Sheffield is a mouth-watering prospect!

Not content with the host of producing wealth on display, we are also pleased to welcome some of the finest resident DJs from leading nights around the UK to the decks; Manchester’s Rong resident, JAMES RIGBY, Birmingham’s Trancecoda duo DARK FUSION, as well as our very own HIDDENAGENDA and MIKE BEAUMONT.

Broadening horizons we are also proud to announce the DE-RAILED room, which shall showcase a psy-trance vibe from DJs familiar to some of the countries leading brands. MATT LICKESS (Illuminaughty), JON COCKLE (JOOF editions), SHAMBLES & T.B.B, SOLAR ENTITY (Psyberia) and LEROY SLATER.

Melting tech house with garage, and bassline with plenty of swing, Cause & Affect’s inventive sounds have taken them across the UK and Europe, as well as earning them the support of radio stations like Kiss and BBC Radio 1. Rinse FM were so impressed by their singular sound that they offered them a weekly Wednesday show that’s gone from strength to strength.
Woz explores bass music in a way you’re unlikely to have heard before. His fresh and unique take on the genre, combined with the incredible production quality on his tracks, is a rarity indeed. Woz’s last release, ‘Early Morning Champagne’ featuring Joel Compass, hit the mainstream hard with its distinctive, bass heavy production. Woz is undoubtedly one to watch.
Denham Audio are a DJ and production collective born and bred in Sheffield. Recent support on their productions has come from Route 94, J. Phlip and Goldffinch, and the trio have been building a solid reputation and gaining recognition for their unique ability to blend techno, deep house, disco and even garage into their sets.

It’s that time of year again! Time to feel fabulously festive, drink mulled wine and eat copious amounts of mince pies. And time to watch four awesome bands at Propa Local.

Stop Drop Robot lead the charge tonight. With a recent supporting slot for Heaven 17 under their belts, they’ll bring a unique, futuristic blend of electronics, guitars and live drums to the stage. These guys sure do know how to create a big sound.

Indie-Britpoppers, RedFaces will also be joining the Chrimbletide fun. As creators of what they call DronRock, expect bright melodies and tight vocal harmonies, inspired by the likes of The Beatles, The Zutons and Noah and the Whale.

Meanwhile, Heart Shakes will be shaking their infectious rhythms all over Plug’s stage, while Clusterfunk complete the bill with their funky soul disco vibes.

Bring your dancing shoes and prepare to be swaggerjacked!

Tonight we celebrate the eagerly awaited release of The Wired’s debut EP, Don’t Settle For Second. Skilfully weaving together echoes of the past with a mixture of new, modern sounds from the North, the alternative indie rock band that hails from Sheffield and Rotherham has plenty to say, and we like it.

Citing Joy Division, The Jam, The Stone Roses and The Smiths amongst their influences, psychedelic indie rockers The Time Sellers will also be taking to the stage with the sole purpose of pleasing your sonic space and getting your toes tapping.

And completing tonight’s line-up are fellow Sheff folk The Mayfairs and Bailey Street, so get your tickets quick. Four mega bands for a mere six quid? You really can’t say fairer than that 
