The success of your gig can hang on the work of your sound engineer.
A good sound engineeer must know their equipment back to front.
And they must be able to tune into your particular sound pretty
quickly. This includes tones and effects on particular instruments
and voices, and also the mix.
A good sound engineer will be able to give you the mix you want,
not what he or she thinks sounds best. It’s a real advantage
if the sound engineer appreciates a broad range of music. Flexibility
is a key. They should carry a load of spare DIs, mics, leads and
other stuff in case you accidentally leave anything behind. Your
engineer should know one end of a soldering iron from the other,
and be able to make quick repairs if things go wrong.
