The Return of the UK's Biggest Pop-Punk Festival! Our Guide to Slam Dunk 2024

The Return of the UK's Biggest Pop-Punk Festival! Our Guide to Slam Dunk 2024

Following last year's epic fail of a parking situation, the most celebrated pop-punk festival in the UK returns later this month and it looks like they've made some big changes! Spanning across two sites; Slam Dunk SOUTH (Sat 25th May, Hatfield Park) and Slam Dunk NORTH (Sun 26th May, Leeds), the 30,000-capacity day festival ran into issues last year being unprepared for the number of cars trying to use the single entrance & parking facilities. After lengthy consultations and gaining feedback from the previous year's attendees, they've put into place solid plans for 2024 and we're heading down to Hatfield ourselves in a few weeks to join the party. Here's the lowdown on what they've improved, and how 2024 is set to be their best year yet.

Access and parking.

The biggest change this year is the parking. The festival organisers have introduced new system including the requirement to buy a parking pass in advance. If you don't have pre-booked parking, you will simply be turned away. Don't panic though, if you've already got your festival tickets, you can still buy a separate advanced parking pass online. We have done this ourselves and the process is super simple. The pass is added to your account and a physical sticker for your vehicle sent out by post. The deadline for booking parking for international customers has now passed, but if you're in the UK you can still do so until the 20th May. Info on how to book your parking can be found here. For both venues, car parks will open at 9 am and festival organisers have promised new and improved signage from all major routes. For detailed directions and information about coach travel also, head to the separate info pages for their North and South sites.

Line-up - some of the world's best pop punk, ska punk & alternative bands are on the list.

This year's lineup is set to include some huge hitters, with a host of names including All-American Rejects, I Prevail, Mallory Knox, and Waterparks to name a few. Headlining 2024 are hugely successful alternative rock band You, Me at Six, with Slam Dunk acting as their final ever UK festival before the band calls time next year. We're insanely excited but equally gutted about this one. (And we're totally in it for the long haul. No early departure is on the cards.)

Another massive name on this year's lineup is that of Welsh post-hardcore rockers Funeral for a Friend. Following their split back in 2016, the band reformed in 2019 to play a charity performance, and have since announced that they are planning to release new music. (The kinda news we love). A resurgence in recent years of the emo/pop punk/alt scene that was prevalent in the early 00s has also seen the band perform across the UK with their latest headline tour. Recent news however confirms that lead vocalist Matthew Davies-Kreye has chosen to leave the band stating a move in a different direction as his reason. In the band's announcement and later quoted by Louder Sound, Kreye states he “leaves with only their love, respect and gratitude.” The band will perform at Slam Dunk despite Kreye's departure, with alternative newcomers Holding Absences' lead singer Lucas Woodland joining them on vocals proudly taking the lead as temporary frontman. This is an incredible choice and there's no doubt that Woodland's performance won't be forgotten in a hurry. We have been huge Holding Absence fans for what seems like forever so this will undoubtedly be on our hit list on the day.

The ska punk stage is looking pretty special too this year with The Interrupters, Bouncing Souls, Mad Caddies, and Goldfinger all performing. Overall a solid lineup across the board is promised for 2024 and fans definitely won't leave disappointed. If you were to ask us for the tracks we're most looking forward to, we'd have to say Gasoline (I Prevail), Beating Heart Baby (Head Automatica), and without a doubt the moment You, Me at Six roll into Bite My Tongue. We're pretty sure Take on the World might make us all hold our breaths for a sec too. Can you tell we're excited?

After Parties.

Know you won't want the party to end? Both the North and South dates are set to host after-parties at no less than four venues each. Slam Dunk South will be taking over Electric Ballroom Camden, The Underworld Camden, Dingwalls, and Black Heart. Slam Dunk North fans can hang out at The Key Club, Belgrave Music Hall, The Social, and Santiago in Leeds following the day's live music. With your festival after-party wristband, you're free to move between venues for the rest of the night and a shuttle service from the festival sites will be available, dropping you directly into the city.

Stage Times.

Once your journey is planned and you've decided what you're gonna wear, we can only assume your thoughts are likely to turn to planning which acts you want to see. Stage times for 2024 are published on the website and will be the same over both days. You, Me at Six, I Prevail, Waterparks, The Interrupters, and The Wonder Years are the headline acts for each stage, with some incredible names opening for them. Each year is inevitably going to come with clashes that you don't want to read about, but it's all part and parcel, right? We're most upset about The Wonder Years and I Prevail. Definitely a clash we didn't want to read right there! Still, catching half of each set has gotta be better than none so we're prepared to roll with it.

We hope this comprehensive guide has been useful for those planning to attend this year's most anticipated pop-punk/alt festival. If after reading, you'd love to be there, tickets are available for both dates and can be found below. Don't forget to purchase your parking passes and after-party wristbands too.
